Broiled Bananas with Rum Cream

This is a wildly simple dessert, especially if you omit the rum cream and just serve the broiled bananas with a small scoop of low-fat frozen yogurt.

1/4 cup reduced-fat sour cream
2 tablespoons plain fat-free yogurt
2 tablespoons packed dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon dark rum
1/4 teaspoon grated lemon zest
Pinch of nutmeg
4 large bananas, sliced on the diagonal into 3/4-inch-long pieces
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
4 teaspoons granulated sugar

1 In a small bowl, combine the sour cream, yogurt, brown sugar, rum, lemon zest, and nutmeg. Refrigerate until serving time.
2 Preheat the broiler. Place the banana pieces in a medium bowl, sprinkle with the lemon juice, and toss to coat.
3 Spread the banana slices in asingle layer on a jelly-roll pan. Sprinkle with the granulated sugar.
4 Broil 6 inches from the heat for 4 minutes, or until the sugar has melted and the bananas are heated through. Serve the hot bananas with the chilled rum cream.
